After the purchase of Lotus’s parent company, Proton, from the Malaysian government by DRB-Hicom, the Malaysian auto group owned by billionaire Syed Mokhtar, the Sunday Times featured a story today suggesting that current CEO Dany Bahar may be attempting to raise funds for a buyout of the company.
Since the sale of Proton it has been widely rumoured that DRB-Hicom may be looking to offload the Norfolk based company, and if so it seems likely that Bahar will be competing with Genii Capital who owns a stake in the Lotus F1 team and have reportedly been carrying out due diligence on the firm ahead of a possible purchase.

Following on from the successful first fire up of their 2012 car the Lotus F1 Team has posted a teaser for the cars launch.
The replacement for the R31 will be named the E20 to commemorate the 20th car produced at the teams Enstone factory, and will be launched on the teams new website at 17:00 CET (4pm UK time) on February 5th, 2012.
News from Enstone today that the Lotus F1 Team have fired up the engine on their 2012 contender for the first time ahead of it’s launch and first shakedown test on February 5th at Jerez.
The team has also shared a selection of pictures in their Pre-Season 2012 album on Facebook, giving a first glimpse of the teams new chassis which will be raced by Kimi Raikkonen and Romain Grosjean.
This one might be of particular interest to our German readers, the Hockenheim Historic Jim Clark Revival is being held between the 13th and 15th of April with a wide range of classic race series including the FIA Historic Formula 1, Euro Boss series and European Formula 2.
It’s set to be a fantastic year for Lotus fans as they celebrate the companies 60th anniversary and 50 years of the Lotus Elan, and the Hockenheim Historic could be a great way to begin the celebration ahead of the Goodwood Festival of Speed and the Lotus Festival at Brands Hatch.
Autosport are reporting that former Virgin Marussia Racing driver Jerome D’Ambrosio will be joining the Lotus F1 Team as the third driver for 2012.
D’Ambrosio, who finished ahead of team mate Timo Glock in the drivers standings in 2012, is managed by Genii who also hold a significant stake in the Lotus F1 Team.
