Lotus F1 Team – Chinese GP – Sunday Race

A reversal of fortunes in today’s race with an optimistic strategy putting Räikkönen out of contention in the closing stages while Romain Grosjean put the troubles of the opening races behind him to finish 6th and get his first points of the season.

Kimi Räikkönen ran strongly in the early stages, holding 4th off the line and while many went for a 3 stop strategy the Finn attempted to complete the race with just 2 stops, attempting to take a set of soft tyres from lap 28 to the end of the 56 lap race. It looked good for a podium position with 10 laps to go with Räikkönen holding 2nd place ahead of Vettel – also on a 2 stop strategy. But as the Pirellis fell off the cliff he was quickly shuffled down the order, losing 7 places in the space of a lap and eventually falling back to 14th running 3 seconds off the pace.

Grosjean by contrast made the 2 stop strategy work well, with a later second stop allowing the tyres to deliver all the way to the flag. While he never looked likely to challenge for the podium he still gained places to finish 6th after starting 10th. It could have been even better had he not run wide on the marbles at Turn 7 while battling for position, but after only running a total of 5 laps in the first two races a strong finish is a definite improvement.

Lotus F1 Team – Chinese GP – Saturday Qualifying

Lotus bounced back from a difficult Friday to perform strongly in qualifying with both drivers making their way in to Q3 and the Top Ten on the grid.

Kimi Räikkönen put in a strong performance, putting in the 5th fastest time which will see him line up 4th after Lewis Hamilton’s 5 place grid penalty.

Romain Grosjean struggled early on but squeezed through in to Q3, but then elected not to run a hot lap in Q3 and so will line up 10th.

New Exige S Posts Hethel Lap Time, Breaks With Tradition

For years Lotus have been carefully honing the art of producing cars precisely two seconds a lap quicker than their predecessors around the Hethel test track, so much so that it has become a running joke in the community.

It comes as a great surprise today then that Lotus have published the time for their new V6-engined Exige S on their Facebook page, and the result is a staggering 5-seconds a lap quicker than the previous generation Exige Cup 260. The new Exige S, tested in it’s optimum configuration with Race Pack, Pirelli Trofeo tyres, and with the Lotus DPM in Race Mode, set a time of 1m 32.68s, compared to the Yokohama A048 shod Cup 260s 1m 37.90s.

Lotus Sport UK – Successful Opening Weekend In British GT For Lotus Sport UK

A good start to the season for the Lotus Sport UK team in the British GT last weekend, claiming 3 podium places from the 2 races in the GT4 class despite a rain soaked race weekend.

Lotus Sport UK opened their 2012 Avon Tyres British GT Championship account with three podium finishes from two races at the picturesque Oulton Park circuit.

In challenging weather conditions Sailesh Bolisetti took to the wheel of the #48 Lotus Evora for the first stint in race one despite only having driven the car briefly in the wet. Promising lap times kept the car in the running for a good finish in GT4 before Phil Glew took over. Setting a stunning pace he reeled in the Ginetta of Hughes and Fannin who had a 1m37s gap at the start of his stint, by the end of the race he had closed that gap down to 37 seconds. New Exige S Reviews to be Published April 25th Despite Uncertainty Over Lotus’ Future

While the internet is awash with rumours of turbulent times ahead for Group Lotus there comes at least some positive news as AutoCar let slip in a piece about Lotus’ future that journalists have now had a chance to drive the companies new V6-engined Exige S, with the embargo for reviews of the car set to be lifted on April 25th.

I hope, then, that in two weeks’ time there’ll be a less uncertain and more positive backdrop when we bring you the Exige S story. The cars, and the people who have developed them, deserve nothing less.

All here at SELOC would like to agree with this sentiment and look forward to hearing the press reception for this much anticipated model.

Lotus Cars – Never let the facts get in the way of a good story….

Amidst ongoing rumours surrounding the future of the company, Lotus Cars have issued the following Press Release.

Discussion: SELOC Chat – Never let the facts get in the way of a good story.. (lotus press release)

Take a little look at what we found online. Don’t you think it’s funny? We do. We had a good old giggle. After all, we love a bit of self irony, just as well really. Although it’s funny, this one’s not accurate but then again, why let the facts get in the way of a good story? The inconvenient truth is – surprise, surprise – we have never said that there are no problems at Lotus.

So whilst lots of people obviously feel the need to comment on Lotus’ current situation in the absence of proper facts or evidence, we can’t ignore these particular mistruths any longer even if we would like to, so we have decided to turn a negative into a positive and use this hilarious piece of ‘art’ to set the record straight regarding the status quo at Group Lotus and try to return a little stability to a fast changing situation.
