Motionsport sends news of their excellent result in the Britcar 24 hour race at Silverstone last weekend, with a fantastic 6th place in their highly modified, Honda powered, S2 Elise.

The team managed this despite a last minute engine change before qualifying.

Lotus endurance racing team, Motionsport, set about 24hrs of giant-killing in its Lotus Elise at this year’s Britcar24hr by finishing 6^th overall. Facing tough competition from much higher powered, large engine GT cars such as Moslers, Ferraris, Porsches, Marcos’s, Aston Martins and Ginettas, Motionsport’s custom built endurance-spec Elise put in a fast, solid, reliable performance to move up the rankings over the entire 24 hours.

The Honda powered Elise was piloted by Motionsport driver Pete Storey and fellow Britcar regular Paul Mitson alongside Caterham racers, Ben Gower and Mike Rowland.

Qualifying a reasonable 26^th on a grid of 55 cars; the enormity of the task ahead was starting to become apparent.

“We had a few dramas during day qualifying with a couple of engine gremlins and had to perform a last minute engine swap to be sure of reliability. The team did a great job to get the spare up and running in time to get the drivers qualified at night. I think we made it with 9 minutes to spare” Said Motionsport Team Principal, Simon Phillips

“Qualifying positions are almost irrelevant over 24 hours, the car definitely has more in it and our long race pace should be very competitive. I doubt some of the cars ahead of us will be able to keep their pace up like we can. A long way to go yet” added Pete Storey

Starting the race on Saturday 1^st October at 16:30, Storey almost immediately set about making up places and by the end of the first stint had the Lotus sitting 13^th overall and 4^th in class. As the night set in the team kept pushing forwards and by one third distance had made it up to 8^th position, maintaining good pace.

As dawn broke over an unseasonably warm Silverstone, Motionsport, still holding a top 10 position, could now start to push and try to move further forward. As the hours passed the positions were gained.

In front of one of the biggest crowds the Britcar 24hr has ever seen, Ben Gower took the chequered flag for Motionsport in an incredible 6^th position overall.

“What an amazing result! I’m ecstatic! It goes to show that with a well prepared car, the right strategy and a team that all work toward a single goal you can achieve great results!” said Gower.

“We’re very, very pleased with the result. It’s a great reward for all of the hard work we’ve put in and hopefully we can build on this for the future.” added Phillips.
