Rob Fenn added another Lotus Cup UK victory to his collection as the championship visited Spa-Francorchamps. A large contingent of Lotus Cup Europe competitors joined in the action, including serial winner Gregory Rasse, who qualified at the front and provided an early challenge for the Englishman on the opening lap of the race.
Using the Evora’s V6 power to pass Fenn’s Motorsport Elise, Rasse took the lead on the run out of Eau Rouge and was soon followed by the 2-Eleven of Marcus Jewell. However defending into La Source at the start of lap two, Jewell collided with Rasse, which gave Fenn a straightforward run to victory.
This left Jamie Stanley holding a comfortable second place in the GWS Exige Cup, but a hard-fought third place was taken by Simon Deacon. The 2-Eleven racer was in eighth place at the end of lap one and worked his way up the field. Phillippe Loup was the best of the European drivers in fourth place, whilst ninth on the road for Jeff Mileham and Stephen Guglielmi was enough to hold onto the championship lead, however Stanley and Deacon are closing in on their total.
Stuart Plotnek won the Production class battle after a fight with Adam Gore, who suffered a problem right at the end of the race, stopping short of the finish line. Second in class for Andy Napier ensures that he keeps hold of his title lead. The early stages also saw some impressive driving from BTCC regular Jack Goff, who jumped out of Neil Stothert’s car during the pitstops and into Phill Capstick’s Exige Cup car, thus finishing the race in 11th and 21st places!
Lotus Cup UK returns to action at the Lotus Festival on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit on 24-25 August.
