Discussion: SELOC Chat – Autosport’s Club Driver of the Year is…
Lotus Cup UK Production Champion Rob Boston has been named as Autosport magazine’s Club
Driver of the Year. The 30-year-old topped a list of ten drivers from the cream of the UK’s single seater, saloon and sportscar series. The accolade is the latest to be received by Boston at the end of a stellar year in which he was shortlisted for the KX Academy funding scheme that is headed by double British Touring Car Champion Jason Plato. In summing up his achievements, Autosport said: “He took five of the eight Production class wins on offer to take that section of Lotus Cup UK and he won more races than any other driver in the Elise Trophy (seven)”. Boston topped the poll ahead of fellow MX5 champion Tom Roche, who also competed in the Elise Trophy this year. In addition, Boston was also named in sister magazine Motorsport News’ end of season list.
After claiming the Lotus Cup UK Production crown, Boston said: “I looked for a competitive budget championship and Lotus sprang out as the one – the Production class has a very strict set of regulations, so I knew there was going to be a nice equal playing field. There are a lot of guys who have been doing this for years, so it was a bit of a surprise to do so well. My initial aim this year was just the Elise Trophy but I got a last minute entry to the Cup race at Silverstone and I got bitten by the
bug! With Lotus Cup UK I feel like I’ve learnt a lot this year, it’s been a different challenge but doubly as enjoyable – it’s been great!”
