For the last five years, LoTRDC have attracted new competitors into the world of motorsport through the Elise Trophy, Lotus Cup Europe and from this year, Lotus Cup UK. This expansion continues with the announcement of a new championship in 2012 as Lotus Cup UK grows.
With an average of 40 starters amongst the 8 rounds in 2011 and new enquiries from entrants coming in on a weekly basis, Lotus Cup UK Production and SuperSport championships have been formed. Production will cater for cars eligible for the Elise Trophy, which will continue alongside after a fifth successful year characterised by close racing. Normally-aspirated Elises and Exiges will compete in this class.
Lotus Cup UK Supersport is for the Exige Cup, 2-Eleven, Open and a new V6 class for the Evora and new 2012 Exige V6 cars, and is expected to be as competitive as ever. The races will once again follow a one hour format, complete with a mandatory pitstop allowing refuelling and driver changes.
The championships will run alongside the Elise Trophy for all rounds except the overseas event at Zolder, which supports the FIA European Truck Grand Prix. With common technical regulations, Lotus Cup UK Production runners can continue to compete in both series.
LoTRDC will be exhibiting at Autosport International in January 2012.
